BUDAPEST, Hungary — BOOKR Kids has raised €6.1 million in Series A financing to expand its digital literacy and language-learning platform internationally.

The round was led by TCEE Fund IV, advised by 3TS Capital Partners. BOOKR was founded in 2015 by chief executive Dr Dorka Horváth and Dani Karanyi.

The company began by digitising Hungarian children’s books and has since developed interactive learning products built around school curricula. Its platform includes digital stories and more than 50,000 learning activities.

BOOKR reports that its products are used by more than 600,000 paying students across over 3,000 schools in more than 30 countries. Those figures are company-reported and should be identified as such.

The new investment is intended to support expansion across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas while developing technology positioned as preparing children for an AI-shaped future.

Educational technology should be judged through learning outcomes rather than engagement alone. Interactive graphics and automated activities can support reading practice, but they should not replace teachers, conversation or access to physical books.

BOOKR will need to demonstrate how its tools accommodate different languages, disabilities, reading levels and levels of internet access.

Data protection is especially important because the users include children. Schools and parents need clear information about what student information is collected, where it is stored and whether it is used to train artificial-intelligence systems.

Horváth’s leadership is notable in a venture market where women founders receive a limited share of investment. The round also demonstrates that women-led companies are building infrastructure-level education products rather than only small consumer businesses.

The company’s next test is whether international expansion improves literacy at a reasonable cost while protecting children from excessive monitoring and commercialisation.
